Yellow Cab and Taxis Fiesta to Award $15,000 in Scholarships
Children of employees and independent contractor drivers
eligible for scholarship; ten recipients awarded
HOUSTON (May 24, 2006) Yellow Cab and Taxis Fiesta, Houston’s only computer-dispatched taxi fleets, announces the recipients of its annual scholarship program for family members of its independent contractor drivers and staff at Yellow Cab, Taxis Fiesta and United Cab.
Now in its second year, the scholarship presentation will take place on Tuesday, May 30 at the Yellow Cab company headquarters, 1406 Hays Street, where family and friends will be in attendance.
This year’s scholarship recipients are as follows:
- Arnetria Ndukwe, who plans to attend Baylor College;
- Devon Wade, who is currently attending MB Smiley High School
- Elizabeth Cantu, who plans to attend the Texas School of Business;
- Bola Ojelade, who plans to attend University of Texas;
- Fortune Vieyra, who plans to attend Texas A & M University;
- Michael Moscatello, who is currently attending Lamar High School;
- Gina Monti, who is currently attending University of Houston-Bauer School of Business;
- Marcella Hagger, who plans to attend the University of Houston;
- Ryan Yep, who plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin; and
- Vanessa Soria, who plans to attend Houston Community College.

The 10 fifteen hundred dollar scholarships awarded by Yellow Cab and Taxis Fiesta may be used for college or technical school training. Eligibility requirements include:
- At least one parent who is an independent contractor driver at Yellow Cab, Taxis Fiesta or United Cab, or an employee of one of these companies.
- Submission of a 1,000 word essay discussing the personal importance of the scholarship.
“It was difficult to choose just ten recipients as they were all worthy of consideration. We look forward to watching these young adults grow and become outstanding members of our community,.” said Roman Martinez, executive vice president of community affairs for Texas Taxi, parent company of Yellow Cab and Taxis Fiesta.
The scholarship applicants were judged by a special committee comprised of company executives. The criteria used to award these scholarships included review of the applicants’ essay entries and their stated financial need.
In addition, these 10 scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to work as summer interns in the company’s sales and marketing departments.
